今天是在缅甸旅行的第四天，最重要的行程，就是参观仰光市瑞光大金塔（Shwedagon Pagoda）。几天来在仰光市出出入入，经常经过大金塔，导游总说是以后再参观。如今就要到大金塔了，实在令人兴奋。
来到大金塔，循例必须脱鞋进入参观。与到其他寺庙不同的是，不用登那70余级大理石阶梯到大金塔台基，这里有电梯，乘电梯到上面是一条长廊，在长廊可以居高临下观看寺庙和丁固达拉山岗四处的景色。走过长廊，就是大塔台基平台，迎面是个佛堂，左面有影壁，镶嵌的是图文并茂的佛教故事，右边是一棵高大的菩提树，这棵菩提古树，相传是从印度释迦牟尼金刚宝座的圣树圃中移植而来的。这里有拜祭台，导游就带头把带来的花供奉在这里。沿影壁与佛堂间走进去，就是金碧辉煌的大金塔了。
仰光瑞光大金塔，又称雪达根宝塔，该塔建于2500年前，高100多米，塔高99.36公尺，据佛教传说，大金塔历史，可回溯公元前六世纪，相传当时有两位虔诚的缅甸人─科迦达普陀兄弟，要运稻米前往印度救济饥民，在途中遇见释迦牟尼，商人将蜜饼送与他分享，佛陀为感谢，回赠八根头发和前三位佛祖留下的拐杖、滤水布及钵。佛发和前三位佛祖留下的圣物被迎回缅甸，打开装佛发的金盒，忽显神力自空中降下金砖，于是众人拾起金砖砌塔。据说佛发和前三位佛祖留下的圣物，就埋在现今大金塔所在处。在大塔台基四角各有一座小型石塔，中间为大塔本身。大金塔形状宛如扣在地上的大钟，内部用砖砌制而成，外表则铺上千余张金箔，所用的黄金达七吨之多，顶端则镶有5448颗钻石和2000颗宝石。塔尖悬挂宝铃，风吹铃响，壮观悦耳。大金塔是仰光市最著名的地标，他与高棉的吴哥窟齐名，是缅甸人的精神地标，如同圣地麦加。对缅甸人来说，大金塔除了是神圣不可侵犯的圣地外，更是他们的精神支柱，每个缅甸人一生之中无论如何都要到此参拜一次。
大金塔所在的平台打扫得一尘不染，导游带着我们以顺时钟方向绕行，大家都迫不及待地仰望大金塔，在蓝天白云的衬托下，金塔真的是美极了，尖顶直入天空，不能穷尽，走在光洁的大理石地板上，眼前虽是金晃晃的一片，心里却能安静详和。围绕大金塔的除了82座大大小小的佛塔，还有很多庙宇楼阁，每个殿堂里都有很多当地人在跪拜。最受欢迎的还是7座生肖神，信徒各依生肖在该生肖神前替佛像浇水、点蜡烛、膜拜。
在大金塔的东北角和西北角，各有一口古钟，一口重约 40 吨，一口重约16 吨。据导游说，是缅甸第二和第三位的大钟，古钟色彩斑斓，是1741 年和 1778 年由两个在位缅王捐建的。缅甸人视西北角的古钟为吉祥、幸福的象征，认为连击三下，就会心想事成，如愿以偿。据说，其中的一个大钟，英国侵略者也曾想把它运回“大英帝国”，只是途中掉进了河水中，后被缅甸人打捞上来重新放置到大金塔的一个亭子里面。据说古钟没被强盗抢走还是佛祖发威的结果，这一点我们的导游深信不疑。这里的大多数佛像和每一间殿堂，都没有外文说明，只有圈圈般的缅文说明，幸好有导游，给我讲解，但也只能是半通不懂。我在感叹大金塔雄伟壮丽的同时，却不能很好的理解每一间殿堂、每一尊佛像的典故。
