怎样短期内记住大量单词？背单词可快可慢，各有所长，亦有所短。不过细嚼慢咽的方法我们多数人中学以来已操练多时，可谓轻车熟路。相比之下，要在短时间内记住大量的单词就更需要一点技巧。主要就是针对增加被动词汇量而言的。艾宾浩斯记忆曲线现在经常被提及，虽然它在某种程度上充当了商家炒作的作料。但是就这个东西本身而言，倒是实实在在的统计科学的产物。人的记忆就是这么个类似指数曲线的规律，在你刚刚看过大量的单词之后，短期内会忘掉其中的大部分，而遗忘的速度是在逐渐下降的。所以，越是新近学习的东西，越要抽出时间复习一下。督促自己复习，可以用一点技巧。比如你想背一本toefl词汇，有整整几十个word list。可以先准备一张日历，上面每一天都对应着一个格子。如果某一天你背了list 1，2和3，就在那天的格子中写上“1，2，3”，然后再朝后面一格格数过去，在后面第1，2，4，7，15，30天的格子里都写上“1，2，3”。然后，以后每天在背单词之前，都先看看这一天的格子里写的数字，把相应的词汇复习一下。背了新单词之后，把复习的日期填到表中。这样，其实就是用一种程序化的方式贯彻了记忆曲线的意图。每天背多少新的单词，究竟要不要背新单词，可以根据这一天复习的工作量有多大而定，我不是很赞成在制表之初就把每一天新单词的工作量制订好，因为那样你会发现，几天过后，光是复习旧单词就够你受的了。注意，重要的是复习，即使没有时间背新的单词，也要把要复习的单词看上一遍，不复习就等于前面根本就没有背过。至于每次背新的单词可以背多少，我看是不必强求的。一般来讲，词汇量尚小的人，一次可以记住的新单词不会太多，二三十个也就可以了，而对于已经有一定词汇基础的人，有了词根词缀同义词的帮助，加上对词形的熟悉，一次背上百个新单词，也是可以的。
