The First Lesson of the New Term, a
TV programme about how to protect oneself in times of emergency, is meant to
provide school students with the knowledge on self-protection. It will help
students in case of natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires, snowstorms or
floods. Many examples show that enough knowledge about self-protection along
with enough courage and willpower can help many survive.
The most recent
example is from the earthquake in Sichuan Province in May of 2008. While
thousands of school kids were killed by collapsed school buildings, all students
from a middle school survived even without a single one being hurt. That's
because of their timely and orderly evacuations (撤离), which they had been
drilled in every term.
It's good to see this program is the most important
activity of a national campaign to make students be aware of personal safety.
Chinese Ecation Ministry has called on all schools nationwide to give lessons
on self-protection knowledge in times of emergency every term.

For example, Australian English’s pronunciation of the sentence “Today is Friday” sounds like “To die is fry die”.
But at present the most popular Englishes are British English and American English. Till now there are one billion people speaking British English and 240 million people speak American English. Canada and America are both American-English-speaking countries.

3.记住典型文章的格式.目前高考的英语作文以应用文为主,记住应用文的一些基本格式是保证分数的关键(例如写书信开头就可以来上一句I'm writing to tell you something about....).

楼主问的问题太好了，但大师嘛，我非能望其项背也，倒是知道钱钟书也是非常有这方面天分的，我看过一个片子，说钱钟书会七八种语言，包括拉丁语，法语，其他很多不记得了。中学有一篇课文不是他写的跟中国诗相关的吗，原来是英文讲稿，就是为了镇住老外的。。。掉书袋呀
我有一本他的英文文集，相当不容易读啊，引经据典，辞藻丰富，不是他圈子里的绝对一头雾水。。。
我个人觉得多看多读就很对啊，但老实说我看nonfiction看完的感触绝对不如fiction强，而你说的BBC,the Economist都是报道性质的文章，更偏journalistic而不是literary。我更喜欢看书评，都是可以加RSS的（其实是因为经济学人的文章我从来都看不进去。。。。）评论性质的往往语言也比较鲜活，就是报纸opinion专栏天天互骂的一群人。。。
大概多久能写得像native。。。这个我就回答不了了，我又不是native。但我始终觉得林语堂级别的大师已经不是像不像native了，而是已经形成了自己的语言风格，超越了模仿。所以“像native写出有自己特色”本身就比较矛盾。Hemingway的风格也不太像他之前的美国作家的主流风格，但是人家是自己的风格。Joseph Conrad都不是在用母语写作，能写出Heart of Darkness简直就是。。。不光英语，维特根斯坦还用拉丁语写哲学著作呢，这能有几个人看得懂啊。。。
我还是觉得多看的话，很多英美人的说法和表达方式自然就internalize了。楼主你可以去我空间看看我转的Mark Twain的一篇文章，标题就不贴了，怕被河鞋。我觉得要是你里面的allusions都明白的话，你就太厉害了，那你一定要给我讲讲。。。anyway，我的意思是，像他那样的文章就很有帮助。。。
