A Flow Shop with Compatibility Constraints in a Steelmaking Plant* Abstract We present a scheling methodology for applications where the generation of scheles is constrained by antagonistic and vague knowledge. Besides temporal and capacity constraints, compatibility constraints between consecutive jobs are managed. We model the vague constraints and uncertain data by fuzzy set theory. The importance of single jobs and the difficulty to schele them is defined on the different constraints and is used to control the generation of scheles. A preliminary schele is generated by considering the important jobs and those that are difficult to schele first. Easy or not so important jobs are scheled later. Finally, the achieved schele is “repaired” until a schele is found that achieves a given level of satisfaction. Since the goodness of solutions is rated by fuzzy sets, robust scheles achieve better evaluations than weak scheles. However, if no robust solution is found constraints will be relaxed. This methodology is appropriate for applications in process engineering where uncertain knowledge is dominant. Beijing , together with the whole country, is becoming more and more prosperous in the process of modernization. Should the 2008 Olympics be held in Beijing, the whole city will be a sea of red : the red torch,red flags, red flowers, and the radiant faces of millions of joyful people. Above all, the 2008 Olympics will be a green Olympics. Adding a green ingredient is essential in creating an appealing image, as we can't deny the fact that Beijing, at the moment, is not as green a city as what we like it to be. Striving for an environmentally appealing city has become a central task for all the citizens of Beijing. Big efforts have been made in pollution control, replanting and beautification of the city. According to a project entitled" The Green Olympic Action Plan", between 1998 and 2007, Beijing, we have invested 100 billion RMB in preserving and protecting the environment. Some 12.5 million trees and over 1 million acres of grass will be planted along the Fourth Ring Road. By then, the city's green area will make up 40% of its total. The city will also dredge its reservoirs used as a water supply to Beijing residents, controlling instrial pollution and moving out the 200 factories presently located within the city proper. Certainly, all of this is no easy task. But I am sure that all of us have confidence that we will realize these green goals. For now we have the full support and participation of the environmentally conscious citizens. Each citizen is showing great concern for every one of the steps the city government takes. As the saying goes, United, we stand, and a green Beijing will be achieved. When our aspiration becomes a reality, it will be a unique Olympics." 屈指算来，我为英文科技刊物润饰稿件已有四十余载，如今每年经我润饰的论文仍逾百篇。与四十年前相比，论文的第一作者大幅度地年青化了，估计平均年龄为三十郎当岁，也就是说，年青作者已成了向英文科技刊物投稿的主力军。那么，英文稿件的文字质量如何？恕我直言，不敢恭维，虽然不能说每况愈下，但至少有一批稿件的写作水平低下。特别是写作态度和写作规范方面，确实远远不如以往几代学人。有些年青人率性而为，竟敢杜撰英语单词、短语，生造英语句式，写出来的论文“惨不忍睹”，除了英语根底不足这一根本原因之外，学风不严谨、态度不认真是一个重要因素，其中的主要问题罗列于下。

·论文格式不规范· 基本上不懂科技论文的章法，随意铺排，杂乱无章，不说前因后果，不讲逻辑思路，不顾详略有致，该引述他人成果时不予引述，该详细铺陈处一带而过，不用细讲处则滔滔不绝，思路混乱，格式自成一套、自说自话。我的劝告是：开篇写论文时，学一点写作规范，针对论文需求，确定格式，例如，学位论文按照学校规定的格式来写；期刊论文按照拟投杂志的格式来写；会议论文按会议指定的格式来写，这应该是起码的要求吧！

·论文语体不规范· 不懂口语与书面语言、科技语言与文学语言的差别，信手乱写。文章里充斥着 “It’s”、“don’t”、“can’t”之类的口语，难登科技刊物的“大雅之堂”。我的劝告是：在科技论文写作中，尽可能用庄重的表述方式，切忌用口语化的缩略语；遣词用句时，能用“大词”，就不用“小词”；尽量少用华丽辞藻；忌用单数第一人称“I”做主语。

·冠词用法不规范· 不熟悉英语定冠词和不定冠词的用法，该加时不加，不该加时加了。我每次修改英文稿时，加得最多的词是“the”和“a（an）”，例如，在“Navier-Stokes equations”前，这个“the”一般是不能省掉的（除非在标题里），而在年青人笔下，常被忽略掉。我的劝告是：写英文稿时，充分注意英文中冠词的用法，不要忘掉加冠词，也不要肆意乱加。

·连词用法不规范· 不知道英文与中文的结构紧密度的差别，忘掉用连词来连接从句或组分。我改稿时，添加连词“and”之类的频度也很高。我的劝告是，留意英语组分中加连词的必要性，不要把英文文章写得“松松垮垮”。

·标点符号不规范· 不了解中英文标点符号的差别，直接搬用中文标点。例如，有时一段文章一“逗”到底，不知所云；更为匪夷所思的是英文稿中常常出现顿号“、”，殊不知，英文没有顿号，并列的组分间用的是逗号（加顿号时还得转换 word 的文本，也不嫌麻烦）。我的劝告是：注意标点符号之类的细节。

·学术名词不规范· 不懂得使用学术词汇的“名从主人”的约定，有严格的规范，由不得个人杜撰；缩略语的写法也有规范，且不宜滥用，通篇缩略语会搞得读者一头雾水，标题中尤其不该乱用生僻缩略语。我的劝告是：多查科技词典，规范学术用语。

·文献引述不规范· 不知道引述文献的规范性：参考文献写法应该“自洽”（一篇文章中用统一格式）；文末的参考文献文中必须恰当引用。我的劝告是：尽力规范地引述参考文献。

今年是我第一次踏入西安交通大学，以前对她有的只是羡慕和敬畏，而现在却感到了更多的亲切和踏实，还没开学的时候就面临着选课，说实话，我对研究生的课程怎么上几乎没有什么概念，对选课也没有太多的了解，只是凭感觉随便选了一些，对《科技英语论文写作》这门课当时也没太多的印象，所以在预选课的时候我没有选这门课程，等到开学，在导师的指导下把专业课选好了后就开始调课，也许是偶然的原因吧，这门课程的开课时间正好和我的别的课程不冲突，而且我想到这个课是我以后要用到的，抱着实用的态度我选修了这门课程。在没上课时我就觉得这个课应该是一个比较枯燥的课程，讲的都是关于科技方面的英语翻译，都做好了接受上这样枯燥的课的一个心理准备，但这一切都只是我的一个猜想，等我真真上了这门课时我才觉得不是那么回事，这正应证了一个道理：课程比较枯燥乏味，但只要上课老师的人能够把它用不一样的方式讲出来，照样可以讲的津津有味，让人觉得听的有意思，感兴趣。

这个历史遗址的相关知识，是我们在学习之余即得到了也放松和愉悦，同时也是我们增长了见识。在整个课程结束的最后两节课然我感到很好而且比较实用和能够锻炼学生的能力。俞老师安排了学生模仿国际会议进行英语演讲，同时做好PPT进行全真模仿和锻炼。虽然没能有幸上去演讲，但能看到同学们上去演讲也还是受益匪浅，尤其有一个同学让我感到由衷的佩服，同时也从他的出色表现中学到了许多东西，他竟然能在PPT页数不是很多的情况下用英语为大家有声有色的讲的将近二十分钟，期间并无重复和间断，光这份勇气和从容就让我感到佩服，当然他的英语水平那也自然相当了得。最后一节课里，俞老师又请到了图书馆里的一位老师专门给我们讲了关于怎样进行文献查阅的专题讲座，这对我们来说非常实用，从中学习到了很多关于电子数据库的背景知识及其使用的方法，原来我们学校有这么好的学习资源，以后一定要充分利用。
