烟头虽小，可危害性大，它的表面温度在200—300摄氏度之间，中心温度可达700—800摄氏度左右，一般可燃物（如纸张、棉花、柴草、木材等）的燃点均在130—350摄氏度之间，都低于烟头的温度，所以烟头可以引燃大部分物质，因此乱扔烟头很容易引发火灾。吸完烟后应将烟头“掐死”，放在烟灰缸或金属、玻璃等不易燃器具内，不要随意乱扔，更不能在禁烟场所吸烟。
