Jazz and blues are American inventions. But most Americans were happy to get their classical music from Europe. After all, classical music is the name for European music from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
Music can be the delicious food for our spiritual life. In a sense, music to life is just like salt to food. Salt can make our food delicious and music can make our lives rich and colorful. But it’s all known that different people prefer different tastes: salty, spicy, fresh, aromatic or pungent. Similarly, music is usually divided into classical and popular ones. Some people enjoy classical music, while others are fascinated by pop music. It’s a liberal world today. Personally speaking, I prefer classical music for the following reasons.

Last but not least, classical music frequently transcends the limitation of time and space. The classical works of those famous musicians have been and will always be masterpieces all the time. Even today Mozart and the above-mentioned musicians are still remembered and respected for their classical music by most people in different countries throughout the world, although Mozart himself was nothing but a mortal person.

1 Never Give Up
“If I could reach higher, just for one moment to touch the sky…”---this is from my favorite song Reach.
When we are appreciating the passionate melody of Gloria Estefan, we could hardly imagine that she could return to the stage after her paralysis. In the year 1990, this Cuban singer was knocked down in a traffic accident, and the doctor declared that she might never walk again. But Gloria did not give up and kept up constant exercising. Just one year after the disaster, she stood up again and presented this encouraging song at the Atlanta Olympics.
Whenever I think of Gloria, I can’t help recalling my memory seven years ago, when I first entered university. Naturally shy, ordinary looking, average scores in study, just like an ugly ckling, I seemed to be the least outstanding one in my class. And the successive failures in the beginning led me into despair. “Am I destined to take the back seat to others?” Unwilling to submit to the fate, I paid more efforts on my study as well as many other activities, film bbing, recital, drama… cause I just want to catch every little opportunity to prove myself. Constant effort yields sure success. Thanks to the competition, I received some awards and most of all, I gained the courage and confidence to face any difficulties in my life journey.
Life is just like farming, and what you can reap depends a lot on your sowing and dedication. Once you have a dream, don’t be hesitant. Your next difficult step may be the one to the top. Keep going forward, even in the toughest time, and never give up.

2 My hobby
My hobby is fishing. I am fond of going fishing, for it is both interesting and iastructive-It tempers my willpower. Last Sunday I went fishing with my friend, He Ping. We started at daybreak. After three hours' cycling, we arrived at the outskirts of Hefei and came to a stream. The water is clear and clean. One can see fish swimming. The meadow sprinkled with buttercups slopes to the stream. It is a good place for fishing.
In a few minutes everything was ready. Putting the t of earthworms on the hook, dropping the hue into the strum, we sat there fishing with rod in hand. An hour passed. I did not catch a single fish. I lifted the fishing rod time and again. Time and again I was disappointed. There was no fish on the hook. On the other side of the stream, He Ping had caught several fish, one of which was very big.
"How comes it that you catch fish casily while it is so difficult for me?" I asked.
"it's easy. Only you need Io be patient." He Ping answered. "Make sure that you lift the fishing rod when the whole flat has sunk. I'm sure a fish will greet you on the hook."
After a while the floats were swinging. I kept my breath and waked. The floats became still again. "Come on my hook, dear fish." I was saying to myself. In a moment the floats swang again and then sank abruptly, Just at that moment I lifted my fishing rod. To my delight I caught a fish. Grlnning, I took it off the hook.
This gave me a great revelation(启示):Stamina(毅力) is what we need to achieve success. And it is more important to young people who usually lack it.
我的业余爱好
我的业余爱好是钓鱼。它不仅有趣，且有意义——它磨炼我的意志。
上星期天，我和朋友何平去钓鱼。黎明时动身，骑了3小时自行车后，来到达合肥郊区的一条小溪边。溪水又清又净，能看见鱼在水里游。撤满草茛的草地倾斜着伸向小漠。那是个钓鱼的好地方。
几分钟后，一切准备就绪。把钓饵鱼虫放在钩上，并将直线垂入溪中，手握钓竿等在那儿垂钓。1小时过去了，我一条鱼也没钓着，不时地提起钓竿，一次又一次地失望，无鱼上钩。而溪对面何平已钓了好几条鱼，其中还有1条是大鱼呢。
“怎么你钓鱼那么容易，而对我却那么难?”我问道。
“这并不难。只是需要耐心。”何平答道：“一定要等浮子全沉下后再举起钓竿，鱼就在钩上欢迎你了。”
过了一会儿，浮子在晃动。我屏住气在等待，浮子又不动了。“亲爱的鱼儿，快上钩。”我自言自语。一会儿，浮子又动了，接着突然下沉。正在此时，我举起了钓芊。我喜出望外地钓到了一条鱼，笑咪咪地把鱼取下了钩。
这件事给了我极大的启示：成功需要毅力。过对缺乏毅力的年轻人更为重要。
3 A Young Idler,An Old Beggar
Almost everyone knows the famous Chinese saying：A young idler，an old beggar. Throughout history，we have seen many cases in which this saying has again and again proved to be true.
It goes without saying that the youth is the best time of life，ring which one's mental and physical states are at their peaks. It takes relatively less time and pains to learn or accept new things in a world full of changes and rapid developments. In addition，one is less likely to be under great pressure from career，family and health problems when young. Therefore，a fresh mind plus enormous energy will ensure success in different aspects of life.
Of course，we all know：no pains，no gains. If we don't make every effort to make good use of the advantages youth brings us，it is impossible to achieve any goals. As students，we should now try our best to learn all the subjects well so that we can be well prepared for the challenges that we will face in the future.

I love English
When I was seven, I started learning English. I played games and sang English songs with other children. Sometimes, I watched English cartoons. It's funny. Then I discovered the beauty of the language, and began my colorful dream in the English world.
I hope I can travel around the world someday. I want to go to America to visit Washington, because my cousin is over there. Of course, I want to go to London too, because England is where English language developed. If I can ride my bike in Cambridge University, I will be very happy.
I hope I can speak English with everyone in the world. Also I'll introce China to them, such as the Great Wall, and the gardens in Suzhou. I will teaching people of the world about the beautiful language of our country.
I like the English language. To learn English is wonderful. I once wanted to be an English teacher . I also like Chinese literature. When I was really young, I was able to remember lots of poems. A Perfect Holiday
My lecture’s name is “ Perfect Holiday”.
Now it’s the 21st century, everyone is busy. Especially our parents are very busy. Every boys and girls, please imagine this: your parents go away on business, but you have to stay at home alone. Would life as easy as when your parents are around? Would it be a perfect holiday for you?
Once, my parents both go on business. I worry “Where would I find food? How would I cook it?” Actually I know little about cooking.
I can fill an empty stomach with tomato and egg soup, but that’s all. I think many of my classmates are the same. We wouldn’t know what to do, or how to look after ourselves. So I don’t think teenagers get enough practice.
My friends said that they did their homework until 10 o’clock, it’s so late! Most teenagers only have time for their homework. They don’t learn any life skills until they go to college.
But why it happens? In my opinion, many teenagers depend too much on their parents, and there is much more to learn than cooking, like“tidying up your room or even dressing yourself properly”.
If we want to solve this problem, there’s a way: Try our best to do some things on our own. A human first need be a self-help person, then he will be a successful man.
