实践的本质、基本特征和基本形式决定了实践在人类生活中具有基础和根本地位，实践构成了人类存在的基本方式。
1．实践是人所独有的活动
作为实践主体的人并非是纯粹生物学意义上的人，而是社会的人。劳动实践不仅创造了人，形成了人类特有的本质，而且，只有在实践中，人类的本质力量才得到充分的体现和确证。
2．实践集中表现了人的本质的社会性
人不仅在实践活动中把自己从自然界中提升出来，使自然界成为自己的对象，而且在改造自然的过程中，人发展着多方面的社会需要，也就有了丰富多彩的社会活动。人的一切社会关系都是在实践活动中产生的，实践创造出了人之为人的一切特征，决定着人的本质的社会性。
3．实践对物质世界的改造是对象性的活动
实践以人为主体，以客观事物为对象，并把人的目的、理想、知识、能力等本质力量对象化为客观实在，创造出一个属人的对象世界。这种改造世界的对象性活动便构成了人的物质生活本身，人在改造世界的同时也在改造着人类自身。总之，实践是人类不同于动物的特殊生命形式，即它是社会生命的特殊运动形式，是人类的存在方式。

人的本质的社会性：人和动物相区别之处在于人不仅仅是单纯的生物体，人还可以进行生产劳动，并在生产劳动中形成人的社会关系，从而产生人的本质属性：社会性。

（1）生物学意义上的人：肤色、遗传基因不同。社会的人：不同的场合扮演不同的角色。
（2）实践是人所独有的活动：大千世界存在很多的生物，但是只有人类具有意识，能够通过实践来改造世界。而其他的生物所进行的活动都是生物本能的活动，不能称之为实践。
