一、词的形态变化
英语中词的形态变化比较复杂,如名词的数、代词的格、形容词和副词的比较等级、动词的各种形式(原形、过去式、现在分词、过去分词等),中学生在起始阶段往往难以掌握。一般地说,简单形式,学生出错少,变化形式,学生错误多;规则变化,错误较少,不规则变化,错误较多。

这些错误的产生有的是与母语的干扰直接有关。初学英语者在未充分掌握一定的英语句式之前,往往按照母语的习惯,将母语的语法形式“迁移”到所要说的英语句子中去,这是十分自然的事。对中学生来说,母语的干扰随时都可能出现,只是程度和范围的不同。问题在于如何采取积极的措施,防止可能出现的某些干扰。
产生母语干扰有两种情况:
一种是硬造英语而“逼”出来的。在未掌握英语某一句式前就做汉译英练习,势必只好按汉语句式去硬凑英语。把“好好学习,天天向上。”译为“Good good study,day day up.”这样的笑话就是这样逼上口头的。防止出现这类干扰的办法就是坚持以句为单位的教学,即一开始就整句教,整句学,整句用,而不是用英汉单词对译的方式凑句。汉语的“早上好。”与英语的“Good morning.” 词序不同,但学生中从未见有按汉语语序说成“Morning good”者, 原因就在于一开始就是整句学,整句用。入门阶段应强调套用句型,“照葫芦画瓢”,不要让学生离开葫芦去“造”瓢。要多做填充、问答、转换之类的练习。通过这类练习理解句型,熟悉句型直到熟练地运用句型。
另一种情况是由于母语习惯而不自觉地产生的干扰。不少学生虽然了解英语中某些语法规则(如名词复数、代词的格、第三人称单数一般现在时的谓语形式等),但在未形成相应的熟练技巧和习惯前,在口笔头表达时往往会因母语习惯的影响,不自觉地出现I have two book.He study English.之类的错误。这种现象可说是“知”和“行”的矛盾,“行”是矛盾的主要方面。因此解决这一矛盾的办法就是“行”(操练)。通过反复大量的操练,养成新言语的习惯,随之逐步缩小直至克服母语习惯的影响。
不过,有些错误则与母语的干扰无关或者关系甚微。它们主要是由于未掌握英语特有的语言形式所致。错误情况,形形色色,需作具体分析,区别对待,对症下药。主要有以下几种:
1.知而不会用有些学生对某一语法项目应该用哪种语法形式心里很清楚,但不能正确写出该种语法形式。例如:在用被动语态时心里知道应该用“be+过去分词,”但却写不出某一不规则动词的过去分词。这主要是平时接触的机会不多所造成的。教师在编拟书面习题时应有意识地增加它们复现的机会。
2,特定规则未成习惯动词的非谓语形式是中学语法教学的重点,也是中学生普遍的难点。成为难点、重点理由之一是其中包括许许多多需要记忆的特定用法规则。例如;let,see,make等动词后的宾语补足语用不带to的不定式,mind,enjoy,finish等动词后的宾语用动名词;as,hoe,learn等动词后的宾语用不定式等。这些规则涉及许多动词,记忆不清而按一般情况对待,就常会用错。另一方面,虽然记清却不常使用,也会出现“卡壳”的情况。因此,应采取使用与记忆相结合的办法,用时思记,记时思用。这样才能逐渐熟悉这些规则和用法。
3.语法概念不清有些语法项目不是单纯记住语法规则就能正确运用的,而应根据具体语境分辨其语法意义才能确定应采用的语法形式。例如:
I wrote a letter when he was coming.(时态误用)
Can you tell me what was happened just now?语态误用)
The tired trip made all of us tiring.(分词形式误用)
一定的语法形式表示一定的语法意义。语法意义具有高度的概括性,比词汇意义抽象得多。中学生在用词造句时往往习惯于思考词汇意义,而忽略其语法意义。教师应通过大量的示例和操练,发展学生抽象思维的能力,以提高对各种语法意义的鉴别力。
