英語考試口語考試的的每場考試都由兩名主考官主持、三名考生參加，時間為20分鍾。考試由三部分組成： 第一部分主要是「熱身練習」，先由考生作自我介紹，目的是使考生進入一個良好的應考狀態，已充分發揮出自己的英語口語水平；然後主考官向每一個考生提問，所提問題由口語考試所決定的話題而決定。每位考生回答一個問題。時間約5分。 第二部分是考試的重點部分，主要考核考生用英語進行連貫的英語口語口頭表達能力，以及傳達信息、發表意見、參與討論和進行辯論等口頭交際能力。主考官先向每位考生提供文字或圖片等形式的提示信息，考生可准備一分鍾。然後要求考生就所得材料與信息做90秒的發言。考官要求考生根據其發言內容，就規定話題進行小組討論，盡量取得一致結論，時間共約10分。 第三部分由考官再次提問以進一步確定考生的口頭交際能力。時間為5分。 (三)評分標准 A.准確性--指考生的語音、語調及所使用語法和詞彙的准確程度。 B.語言范圍--指考生使用的詞彙和語法結構的復雜程度和范圍。 C.話語的長短--指考生對考試中的交際所作的貢獻、講話的多少。 D.連貫性--指考生有能力進行較長時間的、語言連貫性的發言。 E.靈活性--指考生應付不同情景和話題的能力。 F.適切性--指考生根據不同場合選用適當確切的語言的能力。 (四)語言功能 CET-SET考試要求考生參與不同形式的口頭交際，其語言能力將根據其在考試中的表現予以測量。考生需掌握的語言功能和意念在《大學英語教學大綱》中已明確列出，如：友好往來（問候介紹、告別告辭、祝願祝賀、感謝應答、道歉應答、提議、邀請和應答）、相互交流（開始交談、繼續交談、改變話題、停止交談）、態度（願意、希望、意向、決心、責任、能力、允許、禁止、同意不同意、否定、好惡、偏愛、責怪與抱怨、判斷、決定和意見）、勸說（命令、勸告和建議、承諾與提醒）感情（焦慮、驚奇、興趣、加重感情色彩）、存在與否、空間描述（位置方向、運動及其距離）、時間、發表意見和看法、爭辯。 另外考試運用畫面或文字提示輸入信息產生信息差。 (五)標准描述 5分-語法和詞彙基本正確，表達中詞彙豐富、語法結構較為復雜，允許有母語口音；能進行較長時間的、語言連貫的發言，允許偶爾的停頓；能自然、積極地參與討論，總體上與語境、功能和目的相適應。 4分-語法和詞彙有一定錯誤但不嚴重影響交際，詞彙較豐富，發音尚可；發言連貫性但較短，組織思維和詞語時頻繁停頓，有時會影響交際；能積極參與討論但有時不切題或不能與同組成員直接交流，總體基本適應語境、功能和目的。 3分-語法和詞彙有錯誤，詞彙不夠豐富，語法結構較為簡單，發音有缺陷；發言簡短，經常出現停頓影響交際，但能基本完成任務；不能積極參與討論，有時無法適應新話題或討論內容的改變。 2分---上述各項均較差。 (六)能力等級標准 口語考試的評分標准分A、B、C和D4個檔次。 A+(14.5-15分)，A(13.5-14.4分)，能用英語就熟悉的題材進行口頭交際，基本上沒有困難。 B+(12.5-13.4分)，B(11-12.4分)，能用英語就熟悉的題材進行口頭交際，雖有些困難，但不影響交際。 C+(9.5-10.9分)，C(8-9.4分)，能用英語就熟悉的題材進行簡單的口頭交際。 D(7.9分以下)，尚不具有英語口頭交際能力。
