第一個經常問得話題是考研原因。通常我們可以從以下三個方面來回答。
1) 興趣，即強調對所報考的專業懷有極大的興趣(have significant interest in…)。如果本科就讀的專業與報考的專業一致，則可以說明想繼續深造(further ecation)的願望。如果不一致，則要說明報考專業對你的吸引力(…appeals to/attracts me a lot)
2) 優勢， 即強調研究生相對於本科生在知識、 學術方面的優勢， 如： 知識氛圍好(academic atmosphere)， 學術更專業(more professional)， 眼界更廣闊等(broaden one』s vision)
3) 益處，即強調考研對你的未來的積極影響(have a positive effect on…)，可以從求職、職業規劃、人生經歷等方面入手進行說明。可參考的詞彙、短語如下：
be helpful, contribute to, be beneficial to, be conctive to, be a definite,advantage, become a strong point when it comes to…等等。
