詞彙是學好英語的關鍵，沒有足夠的詞彙就無從談起聽、說、讀、寫。
詞彙量的大小決定一個學生英語水平的高低。因此在初中階段除要掌握《大綱》要求的800多詞彙外，還要擴充500個左右的詞彙。在學習詞彙的過程中，要掌握詞的拼讀規則，根據規則記憶單詞；同時還要根據構詞法知識記憶和擴充單詞，通過語境理解和記憶單詞也是一個最佳學習單詞的好方法。目前詞彙在中考試題中漢譯英的試題越來越少，取而代之的是詞彙在語境中的運用考查比重越來越大。在進入學習英語的初級階段時，掌握語音知識是學好英語單詞的基礎，讀准英語音素是拼讀音標的前提。因此一定要熟練掌握48個音素，要做到會拼讀、拼寫。有些同學認為中考試題的筆試部分取消了對語音的考查，於是就其次，要注意訓練自己聽音、辨音和模仿的能力。課堂上，專心聽老師的發音和磁帶上的錄音，爭取當堂學會。對於那些比較拗口的單詞、短語或句子，課下一定要擠時間反復模仿，直到讀准、讀熟為止。再次，熟練掌握讀音規則，培養自己根據讀音規則把字母(或字母組合)與讀音建立起聯系的能力。因為掌握拼讀規則對單詞的記憶很有好處。為此要經常復習鞏固每單元最後一課的「Listen，read and say」和課本附錄中的"Pronunciation and spelling」，如果不重視這些內容。我覺得這可是很大的缺撼。如果誰能夠熟練掌握它，它可就成為你記憶單詞的好幫手了。
