那麼美式英語是怎麼問候人的呢?看過美劇Friends的朋友,一定會記得裡面的Joey的經典搭訕金句:How are you doing? 是的,美國人的通行問候語就是:how are you doing? 不管是第一次見面還是熟絡得可以穿一條褲子,不管是東海還是西岸,基本實用。如果有人介紹你和某某相識,老美的套路基本上是:握手,Nice to meet you, How are you doing? 而不是教科書上說的,第一次見面說 How do you do!

怎麼回答How are you doing?呢。 記住,這基本上是一句寒暄套話,是人際關系潤滑劑。大部分情況下,你只需要給個簡單禮貌的回答就打發過去了。I am doing fine, 或 I am doing well.是符合語法規則的標准回答,因為do 要用副詞修飾的。但是,流行的回答是:Good,I am doing good, I am doing great, Fantastic..等。嚴格來說 doing good 並不符合語法,但它卻是美國各階級群眾流行的用語。然後基於禮尚往來的緣故,跟一句,and you?
當然,如果是你的好朋友問侯你,並且配上關心的眼神,那說明他真想知道你過得怎麼樣,那你就可以具體一點了。今早頭疼了,周末沮喪了,高興了,有艷遇了,都可以聊上幾句,聯絡溝通一下感情。一次,某同學聽到 How are you doing? 後答道:I am cleaning up my desk.等等,這是不對的。不是在問 What are you doing?
當然老美還是會有其他打招呼的用語的,比如
Hi,Hello,
How is everything?
What is going on?
What's up?
但是,如果你和美國人交流,不要說How do you do? 小心被當怪物看。也不要說 Have you eaten? 別人會以為你想約吃飯。
