英語學習的最本質規律其實就是嬰幼兒學母語的規律。回憶我們小時候學講話的過程,那時侯我們絕對不會看書,我們隨意地跟著父母聽和說;隨時隨地都泡在母語的語言環境里,聽不懂我們能猜,說的說的都是最簡單最實用活生生的語言,那時我們不懂語法,不會單字,那些都是我們會說話之後被送到學校去才學的。
想像一下，一個外國人整天在屋裡「閉門造車」，學習中國的孔孟之道，他的漢語口語會是什麼樣子？只能是零，只能是啞巴。同樣中國人也是這樣，如果整天學習文章式的英文，最後口語也會是零，這種結果已經暴露出來了：中國幾乎所有的英語學習者都是英語啞巴高手。
口語學習的關鍵是要模仿人家的說話。這包括語音和語調兩部分。中國英語教學重視語調的很少，盡管很多時候語調可能比語音更重要
模仿說話要注意的幾點
1、一定要盡力模仿發音和語調，越象越好。
2、每一句可以回倒重放，但我傾向於讓大家完成一小段後再回去重來。
3、同步閱讀。當你對發音、語調完全掌握之後，就要在放錄音的同時同步跟讀。爭取讓自己的聲音與他完全重合。注意語調和語音。如果中間有結巴的地方也不要緊，繼續讀下去，然後再回來重讀。
4、注意使用學到的語音語調。當滾瓜爛熟之後，可以進入下一個材料。
這樣，一兩個月之後，當你「精讀」過五到十篇約一千字篇幅的材料之後，你會發現你的英語發音和聽力有了明顯的進步。再配合其他學習，如與人聊天，看電視，聽廣播，等等，口語水平會得到顯著提高。
學習英語的重要性已經是不言而喻的了，可實際生活中，由於對口語、聽力訓練不夠，大部 分高中畢業生、非英語專業大學本科畢業生口語發音不準、說話不流利且聽力太差，無法用英語進行交流。
平常多與人用英語聊天，多聽英語教材的磁帶，多看國外的電影，是練習英語會話的不二法門
注意事項：
a.復習預習工作一定要做，只有這樣才會有較大的收益。
b.不要怕丟面子。成年人學英語最大的敵人是自己，尤其是自己的「面子」。
c.自我對話與口頭作文也是一種很好的口語訓練法。
一般會話，非正式口語就足夠了，可要參加技術交流、商務會談、正式會議等，練好正式的口語就很有必要了，這就是句子庫法。
