一．概述
在酒店裡所使用的英語會話，基本上是屬於商業英語，與日常生活會話中所使用的英語略有不同，較注重禮節。正式英語通常會讓人誤解為極艱深的英語，其實，只要套用一定格式的句子和單詞，就可以了。例如：
非正式英語 正式英語
What』s your name? May I have your name?
您貴姓？ 請問您貴姓大名？
Do you want some tea? Could you like some tea?
您要喝茶嗎？ 請問您想喝茶嗎？
Over here, please. Could you come this way please?
這邊請。 請您往這邊走好嗎？
* 不要說OK, Sure, Yeah等等，而要說Certainly, Sir.
* Hey, uh-huh, Hang on 等等，也不適合在酒店中使用。
* 別說「I don』t know.」回答「不知道」是非常不禮貌的說法。
可以說「just a moment, please. I』ll check that for you.」 （請稍候，我來幫您確認），然後請有能力處理的人前來協助。
* 對男性客人，尊稱為Sir; 面對女性客人時尊稱為Ms.
在招呼客人時，最好說「Excuse me, Sir(Ms)」, 不要直接稱呼Mr.或Ms. 至於稱呼小孩，可以直接使用Excuse me，但是不可以直接稱呼boy或girl.
* 正視對方的眼睛，以顯示出你的信心和誠意。但必須注意，注視對方的眼睛，並不是無理地盯著對方看。
* 在面對語言不通的外籍人士時，一定要多加利用手勢和肢體語言。但是使用手勢時要特別小心，因為對於不同國家、民族而言，手勢的意義也大不相同。

1. Do you like to go out eating?
想不想出去吃呢?
有次我問老美出去吃東西怎麼說，他回答說一般出去吃飯，他們只說go to eat ，go out eating 或是eat out 而不會說go to dinner，go for lunch，也就是不需特地說中餐或是晚餐。的所以後來老美問我剛去哪了，我應該要說的I just went out eating，而不會說I just went to dinner。小明細多注意，你的英文會更棒。
如果要強調是去吃午餐或晚餐的話，一般就直接說lunch 或是dinner。例如人家問你，「Where did you go?」 你就可答說「lunch。」
2. There is a Deli over there，do you like it?
那裡有一家Deli（餐廳），你喜不喜歡呢？
美國的餐廳可分很多種，Restaurant 是一般的通稱，另外常用到的有Deli ：供應三明治，沙拉這種現成的，不需再經過烹調的餐廳，例如SUBWAY 就可以算是Deli。另外還有Grill 也隨處可見，翻譯成烤肉餐廳，多半是提供牛排，漢堡熱食類的食物。
Deli 這個字是delicatessen 的簡寫，可是現今在美國一般只會聽到deli 而很少聽到delicatessen 了!
3. What do you like to drink?
想要喝什麼？
美國餐廳的習慣，吃飯時都會點一大杯飲料，所以侍者一定會先問你What do you like to drink。也有人會這么說，Can I get you something to drink?。一般餐廳都會提供的有Coke，Diet Coke，Sprite，Iced Tea，以及Lemonade 等。如果什麼都不要，就說Just water。
值得注意的是，在一般的速食店提到drink 都是指soft drink 而言。但是一般人說到have a drink 時，他們多半指的是alcoholic，也就是含酒精的飲料。所以如果有人問你，「Come on, have a drink with us.」 他絕不是要你跟他們一起喝可樂的意思，而是要你跟他們一起喝酒啦!
4. Are you ready to order or just a minute?
你們准備好了嗎？ 還是要再等一會？
通常飲料上桌之後，大夥都還要花點時間研究一下菜單，如果侍者看你們大概都差不多了，他就會過來問你們，Are you ready to order or just a minute?如果是已經准備好要點餐了，就直接跟她說你想吃什麼，如果大家還要再研究研究，則可以跟侍者說Just a minute。或是Wait a few more minutes。請他等一下，他會說OK. I'll beback.（好，那我等下再來。）
5. Do you want to separate check?
你們要不要分開付帳？
比如說二對夫妻出去吃飯，大家想各自付自己的，則你們可以主動跟侍者說的We want to separate check。有時他們也會主動問你，Do you want to separate check?或是Do you want separate checks? 這樣的話帳單就會有二張。但有些餐廳separatecheck 會多收服務費，最好先問清楚。如果是要一起付，則簡單地說，together或是one check 就可以了。（本文來源：Hao360）
用外語請人吃飯的三點注意
人是鐵飯是鋼，不吃一頓餓得慌。在北京還真看到過「飯是鋼」的餐廳，可見吃飯的重要性。中國人早就有這種說法，盡管「民以食為天」是舊的習俗，但是傳統意義上的吃飯已經衍生為現代重要的交流與溝通的方式，它與你我的生活已經密不可分。人與人之間的交流、生意人之間的談判、同事之間的溝通、親人之間的親密等等，但請客吃飯有一點是有共性的，那就是不管你的目的是談生意還是與人約會，最終的打算是讓對方高興而來滿意而去。
如何安排請人吃飯呢？以下幾點務必注意：
一、在你請人吃飯的時候，你應該首先問問人家："What are you in the mood for?"「您想吃什麼？」"mood"這里有心情、心緒的意思，這句話中"be in the mood for"是一個固定的用法，意思是「想吃什麼？」當然，如果這種用法用到別的地方，就有了不同的理解。比如，看到了電影院，你會這樣問："Are you in mood for a movie?"意思是「你想看一場電影嗎？」自然，"for"後面還可以用"dancing，shopping,smoking等。但是千萬不要說成"Are you in the mood?"這樣就會引起人的誤會了。
二、最重要的一點你可千萬別忘記了，那就是誰請客的問題。一般經過你的倡議自然是你請客了，也就是你應該說"I'll treat you."「我請客。」當然，如果你請的外國人提議"separate checks"，那就是中國人所謂的AA制了，也就是分別買單的意思，你吃多少就要付多少錢。如果是"split the bill"，那就有區別了，一般這種宴請不會出現，那是平攤帳單的意思。在中國，一般同學、同事聚會就會用到最後一種。
三、最後一點可是人命關天了，那就是大家一起結伴出行吃飯，事先應決定誰開車的問題。面對美酒會開車的朋友自然要犧牲一位了，不然一旦都喝了酒，回來的時候可就泡了湯，誰也不敢開，誰也不能開了，誰來是違章，大夥的性命最重要。因此，大家在出行前會問"Who's gonna drive?"「誰來開車呢？」"gonna"是典型的美語，表示即將發生的事，其實就是"going to"，同樣，還有"wanna"即"want to"，用法很特殊。這句話也可以說成"Who's driving"?但這種說法不如第一種流行。
