語言是「思想的直接現實」，是信息的第一載體，而口語又是人們最廣泛應用、最內經濟容簡便的表達方式和交流手段。「教師是吃開口飯的」，流利的口語是教師必須具備的基本功之一。英語教師其標志性特點之一：就是他的英語口頭表達能力相對其他科目的教師較強。但在此基礎上，存在這么一個問題：英語教師在課堂上或在生活中，運用英語口語的表述較少，導致師與生、生與生、師與師之間的英語表述尚未能脫口而出。針對這個問題，筆者展開了一系列的探討與研究，找出了一些相關的提升方式，現歸納如下：

我是一個中來學生，但英語成績自很好，也參加過幾次口語比賽。 英語口語比賽往往分四場：初賽（讓學生朗讀課文，讀的好的留下，參加復賽）；復賽（學生用英語在規定時間內介紹自己，同樣優者進入半決賽）；半決賽（學生當場回答老師提出的問題，當然用英文，問題可以是：WHERE IS YOUR HOME？，HOW IS YOUR FAMILY？，HOW IS YOUR TEACHER LIKE？等）；決賽（當場給學生一個題目，在五分鍾准備時間後讓學生即興演講）。
