針對以說明文議論文為主的考試英語，在鞏固和再理解語法的同時，還需要一些固定的閱讀練習。我的建議是每次閱讀的時候一邊讀一邊筆頭跟上。主要信息一邊讀一邊劃出來，這樣久而久之會幫助你適應英語的邏輯最後形成英語思維的習慣。

1.音讀
許多朋友都有出聲閱讀的習慣。出聲閱讀的主要弊病就是使閱讀速度和效率受說話速度的限制。因為，正常默讀速度幾乎要比出聲朗讀的速度快兩倍以上。 另外，出聲閱讀往往以不同的形式表現出來，有時看見的僅僅是無聲地動動嘴唇，有時甚至連嘴唇也不動，只是舌、喉在活動。嘴唇的活動無疑會影響眼睛的掃視速度，"一個有效率的讀者能夠只要看到印刷符號，就直接獲得意思，而不經過聲音階段。"因此，要克服這種不良的閱讀習慣，就要訓練自己養成通過視覺器官直接感知文字元號的視讀能力。
2.心讀
心讀是一種很難觀察到的閱讀習慣。心讀時，人體的任何部位，不論嘴、頭或聲帶都沒有動，只存在一種說話的內在形式：學生在內心裡始終自言自語，清晰地發出並聽著每個字音。這種毛病亦是一種很壞的閱讀習慣，它直接影響到閱讀的速度和效率，並且矯正起來又比較困難。採用強制自己深入理解文章內容的同時，又強制自己加快閱讀速度的方法一般能逐漸克服這種壞習慣。
3.指讀
指讀是指用手指、鉛筆或尺子等指著一個個詞進行閱讀的習慣。這種指讀的單純機械運用不僅會減慢閱讀速度，而且還會把我們的注意力引向錯誤的方向。一個高效率的閱讀者不會注意單詞的位置，也不會在每個單詞上平均花費時間，而是把注意力集中在作者要闡明的思想內容上。指讀的習慣實際上妨礙了眼睛運動並限制了大腦的快速活動能力。因此，必須克服這種不良的閱讀習慣，逐漸養成用腦瞬間反映文字信息的能力。
4.復視
復視指的是讀完一個句子或段落後回過頭去重復閱讀。閱讀能力差的朋友往往過分依賴於復視以養成一種習慣。改變這種不良習慣的辦法就是讓自己閱讀大量難度適宜的讀物，這樣就不會因遇到生詞或不太懂的短語、句子或段落而回過頭來再看，以至養成復視的習慣。
5.頭的擺動
閱讀時頭部下意識地左右擺動是閱讀的另一壞習慣。在閱讀過程中，有些人往往盡量使自己的鼻尖對准他正在讀的每一個字。這樣，當他順著一行字往下讀時，他就會輕微地擺動頭部，而當他通過頭來看下一行時，他就會很快轉回去以便使鼻尖再對准書頁的左邊。這種頭的擺動，學生往往意識不到，而正是這種不必要的動作往往對閱讀速度產生影響。因此，必須克服這種毛病，養成閱讀時只移動視線的習慣。
其他不良的習慣，諸如閱讀時，有的注意力不集中，"思想開小差"；有的用尺子比著， 一行一行地向下移；有的一面閱讀一面玩弄鋼筆、尺子、鑰匙等物，不時地發出響聲；有的 愛抖動雙腿；有的過多地進行語法分析；有的還停下來查詞典等等。這些不良習慣直。
