實踐的本質、基本特徵和基本形式決定了實踐在人類生活中具有基礎和根本地位，實踐構成了人類存在的基本方式。
1．實踐是人所獨有的活動
作為實踐主體的人並非是純粹生物學意義上的人，而是社會的人。勞動實踐不僅創造了人，形成了人類特有的本質，而且，只有在實踐中，人類的本質力量才得到充分的體現和確證。
2．實踐集中表現了人的本質的社會性
人不僅在實踐活動中把自己從自然界中提升出來，使自然界成為自己的對象，而且在改造自然的過程中，人發展著多方面的社會需要，也就有了豐富多彩的社會活動。人的一切社會關系都是在實踐活動中產生的，實踐創造出了人之為人的一切特徵，決定著人的本質的社會性。
3．實踐對物質世界的改造是對象性的活動
實踐以人為主體，以客觀事物為對象，並把人的目的、理想、知識、能力等本質力量對象化為客觀實在，創造出一個屬人的對象世界。這種改造世界的對象性活動便構成了人的物質生活本身，人在改造世界的同時也在改造著人類自身。總之，實踐是人類不同於動物的特殊生命形式，即它是社會生命的特殊運動形式，是人類的存在方式。

人的本質的社會性：人和動物相區別之處在於人不僅僅是單純的生物體，人還可以進行生產勞動，並在生產勞動中形成人的社會關系，從而產生人的本質屬性：社會性。

（1）生物學意義上的人：膚色、遺傳基因不同。社會的人：不同的場合扮演不同的角色。
