Today, I read the book"The Prince and the Pauper",a popular novel writen by a famous American author Mark Twian.
The story describes a prince, Edward and a pauper,Tom changed their position ocassionally. The prince became a pauper while the pauper became the prince.
The pauper Tom worn a prince's clothes in the palace and became the new king of the Great Britain.
And the true prince Edward can not be a true king.He had to live with poor people and beggers.
Under the help of a good man,Hoton, prince Edward changed his bad habit and finally went back to the palace.
And pauper Tom felt very sorry and had to leave. The real prince became the real king. Finally, Edward became a good king and live with his people happily.
After reading this book,I thought a lot which I never thought before:people couldn't make their life be perfect in any time.Any thing we do has both good results and bad results, because all things are connected:if you choose one thing, you have to give up another thing.Besides, i feel that we should have a kind heart,no matter when we rich or poor and make many good things to others.

The Prince and the Pauper:
When Tom Canty, a pauper and clumsy thief accidentally stumbles into the chamber of young Prince Edward, the two make a remarkable discovery: they look alike! Edward is about to attend a stuffy costume ball, and is inspired by an idea: switching clothes with poor Tom and attending the ball as a lowly pauper. The unknowing guards seize the prince and forcibly eject him from the castle, while the frightened and bewildered Tom is paraded out in front of the royal guests, including the King, and proclaimed by all to be the true Prince of Wales!
Both men find themselves way over their heads in their new identities, and neither can convince those around him of the truth. Matters grow even more complicated when the King Henry dies, leaving the throne to the imposter he believes is his son. Tom now finds himself faced with the prospect of marriage to the queen of Scotland, and possibly waging a war against France. He』s not equipped to do much of either.
Edward learns of the news of his father』s death, but he』s facing his own problems, as Tom』s abusive ogre of a father has taken his 「son」 to join up with a band of thieves, where he begins to learn of the plight of the poor who have suffered under Henry』s indifference. Somehow, he must escape and make it back in palace in time to convince everyone of the truth and make things right again, before the coronation that irrevocably places the crown on Tom』s head!

The prince and the pauper" irony the author of the book is the realism novelist mark. Twain. This novel in the 16th century British social condition as the background, and in the form of fairy tale tells the story: Tom out of the slums, more can understand the sufferings of folk, more profound feelings of human changes in temperature, thus more cherish their hard-won happiness, and bring benefits to more poor people. And enjoy prosperity, in the king's palace, prince, living a desultory life in a rich environment, never experience fearful days and swap identity, after the prince has tasted the sufferings of folk, know their own people lives in hot water, the feeling and they feel is the same. When the prince again when the king, he work hard, bring benefits to the people. Therefore, no matter in any circumstances, we should keep a kind heart. To learn the perspective-taking, learn to understand the plight of his people, learn to cherish our life now. As the other words, happy families are all the same, but unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. Maybe we now what do you think of the boring life, it is countless people yearning and looking forward to life. Therefore, we want to know to cherish, understand love. When the unfortunate person in life, we must do something to help them. To be good is the biggest harvest I read the book.
1:
Made less satirical than Mark Twain's classic and simplified for younger readers, this retelling is still a lively romp. A beggar and a prince look so alike that they change places but then cannot immediately switch back. Mayer's (The Unicorn and the Lake) adaptation is serviceable if not sparkling; she retains all the key scenes of the story but flattens Twain's archaisms. While some of the original's sophisticated humor gets lost in the translation, much of it remains. For example, when Edward, the prince, tries telling pauper Tom's parents that he is really the Prince of Wales, Tom's mother responds, "Oh, poor Tom, it's all those books you read that's done this to you." And in court, when Tom is given a finger bowl, he drinks from it, announcing, "This is a very flavorless soup." Lippincott (Bruce Coville's Magic Shop series) vibrantly renders the ragged features of the paupers, and his tableaux are full of life. His palace scenes are ornate, light-filled watercolors of splendor in which the boys' homely, toothy faces seem like the only real and honest things. For readers not yet ready for Twain, this version, like its model, will make them think about their places in the world.

PREFACE
1881 THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER A TALE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE OF ALL AGES by Mark Twain
PREFACE
I will set down a tale as it was told to me by one who had it of his father, which latter had it of his father, this last having in like manner had it of his father- and so on, back and still back, three hundred years and more, the fathers transmitting it to the sons and so preserving it. It may be history, it may be only legend, a tradition. It may have happened, it may not have happened: but it could have happened. It may be that the wise and the learned believed it in the old days; it may be that only the unlearned and the simple loved it and credited it.
Hugh Latimer, Bishop of Worcester, to Lord Cromwell, on the birth of the Prince of Wales (afterward Edward VI).
