今天是在緬甸旅行的第四天，最重要的行程，就是參觀仰光市瑞光大金塔（Shwedagon Pagoda）。幾天來在仰光市出出入入，經常經過大金塔，導游總說是以後再參觀。如今就要到大金塔了，實在令人興奮。
來到大金塔，循例必須脫鞋進入參觀。與到其他寺廟不同的是，不用登那70餘級大理石階梯到大金塔台基，這里有電梯，乘電梯到上面是一條長廊，在長廊可以居高臨下觀看寺廟和丁固達拉山崗四處的景色。走過長廊，就是大塔台基平台，迎面是個佛堂，左面有影壁，鑲嵌的是圖文並茂的佛教故事，右邊是一棵高大的菩提樹，這棵菩提古樹，相傳是從印度釋迦牟尼金剛寶座的聖樹圃中移植而來的。這里有拜祭台，導游就帶頭把帶來的花供奉在這里。沿影壁與佛堂間走進去，就是金碧輝煌的大金塔了。
仰光瑞光大金塔，又稱雪達根寶塔，該塔建於2500年前，高100多米，塔高99.36公尺，據佛教傳說，大金塔歷史，可回溯公元前六世紀，相傳當時有兩位虔誠的緬甸人─科迦達普陀兄弟，要運稻米前往印度救濟飢民，在途中遇見釋迦牟尼，商人將蜜餅送與他分享，佛陀為感謝，回贈八根頭發和前三位佛祖留下的拐杖、濾水布及缽。佛發和前三位佛祖留下的聖物被迎回緬甸，打開裝佛發的金盒，忽顯神力自空中降下金磚，於是眾人拾起金磚砌塔。據說佛發和前三位佛祖留下的聖物，就埋在現今大金塔所在處。在大塔台基四角各有一座小型石塔，中間為大塔本身。大金塔形狀宛如扣在地上的大鍾，內部用磚砌制而成，外表則鋪上千餘張金箔，所用的黃金達七噸之多，頂端則鑲有5448顆鑽石和2000顆寶石。塔尖懸掛寶鈴，風吹鈴響，壯觀悅耳。大金塔是仰光市最著名的地標，他與高棉的吳哥窟齊名，是緬甸人的精神地標，如同聖地麥加。對緬甸人來說，大金塔除了是神聖不可侵犯的聖地外，更是他們的精神支柱，每個緬甸人一生之中無論如何都要到此參拜一次。
大金塔所在的平台打掃得一塵不染，導游帶著我們以順時鍾方向繞行，大家都迫不及待地仰望大金塔，在藍天白雲的襯托下，金塔真的是美極了，尖頂直入天空，不能窮盡，走在光潔的大理石地板上，眼前雖是金晃晃的一片，心裡卻能安靜詳和。圍繞大金塔的除了82座大大小小的佛塔，還有很多廟宇樓閣，每個殿堂里都有很多當地人在跪拜。最受歡迎的還是7座生肖神，信徒各依生肖在該生肖神前替佛像澆水、點蠟燭、膜拜。
在大金塔的東北角和西北角，各有一口古鍾，一口重約 40 噸，一口重約16 噸。據導游說，是緬甸第二和第三位的大鍾，古鍾色彩斑斕，是1741 年和 1778 年由兩個在位緬王捐建的。緬甸人視西北角的古鍾為吉祥、幸福的象徵，認為連擊三下，就會心想事成，如願以償。據說，其中的一個大鍾，英國侵略者也曾想把它運回「大英帝國」，只是途中掉進了河水中，後被緬甸人打撈上來重新放置到大金塔的一個亭子裡面。據說古鍾沒被強盜搶走還是佛祖發威的結果，這一點我們的導游深信不疑。這里的大多數佛像和每一間殿堂，都沒有外文說明，只有圈圈般的緬文說明，幸好有導游，給我講解，但也只能是半通不懂。我在感嘆大金塔雄偉壯麗的同時，卻不能很好的理解每一間殿堂、每一尊佛像的典故。
