記得有一天，我家的電風扇壞了，扇葉被摔壞了一片，用的時候總是因為不平衡而產生「嘎吱嘎吱」的聲音，當時風扇還很新，當廢品賣了又不捨得，搞得我們都不知道怎麼辦才好。
第二天中午，媽媽拿著面巾紙的墊板、剪刀、筆和透明膠帶過來了，我上前一看，媽媽正那咋墊板，用筆畫出來風扇扇葉的缺口處，然後用剪刀剪了下來，小心點與壞了的扇葉拼起來，用透明膠帶捆了又捆，最後把風扇蓋蓋好，插上電源，打開，風扇居然像新的一樣轉動起來，一點噪音也沒有！我豎起大拇指，說：「媽媽，虧你能想出這樣的辦法來。」
還有一次晚上，媽媽走了進來，一看弟弟的頭低得比筆還低，轉身走了。不一會兒，她拿著鞋盒，剪刀和訂書機過來了，只見她把那個長方形的鞋盒的蓋子用剪刀剪了下來，把一邊剪去，又把兩條寬折了下去，又用訂書機固定了一下，一放，便形成了一個坡。媽媽給弟弟墊上，弟弟試了試，高興的說「太好用了，字看得更清楚了。」我不明白，便問媽媽：「這是怎麼回事？」媽媽回答：「是光的反射。本子放平時，光線成直角反射，就看得不夠清楚，而墊上這個紙板，光大約成了45度角，反射後的光線也成了45度角，映入眼簾，這樣就看得清楚多了。」
