基本要求
英文書寫應符合書寫規范，英文字母要寫清楚、寫整齊、寫美觀，字母的大小和字母之間的距離要勻稱。書寫應做到字形秀麗漂亮，通篇勻稱和諧。
寫英文字母要掌握正確筆順。如小寫字母i ，應該先寫下面的部分，然後再打點。有的學生卻按寫漢字的習慣從上到下寫，寫快了，就會把點和下面的豎筆連在一起，顯得十分別扭。字形t應為兩筆。不少人卻將兩筆合成一筆，看上去不像t，倒像l或是e，難以辨認。另外，把r寫成v，把q寫成把g，把k寫成h等等，都是中學生書寫中常見的毛病。
不少人在四線三格的練習紙上書寫尚有規矩，能按字母的占格、高低和大小要求書寫，但在白紙或橫線紙上書寫，卻顯得十分幼稚拙劣。字母或跳上跳下，或一律寫成同一高度，占上中兩格的字母與佔中下兩格的字母完全沒有高低之別。這些現象都要防止。
另外，書寫時還要注意詞與詞之間要保持一定的距離，不能緊靠在一起。字母之間的連寫也應該按照習慣，不能隨意亂來。
在一篇字數有限的作文里，我們還要注意盡量不把一個單詞拆開移行。萬一要移行，則必須以音節為單位進行，如revolution這個詞，依照音節移行的原則可以按re-，revo-, revolu-這幾種方法移行。在移行時，我們還應特別注意以下幾點:
1. 單音節詞不能移行，即使是字母較多的單音節詞，如through等也不能例外。
2．縮略詞如Mr.、Dr.等不能和後面的名字拆開移行。 縮略的專用名詞如U.K.(the UnitedKingdom)、U.S.A(United States of America)等也不能拆開移行。
3．時間、量度及貨幣單位應視為一個整體；不能分開移行。

看圖作文就是要求根據圖畫(或表格)的內容展開合理的想像，寫出文章的一專種寫作方式。看圖作文屬應做到以下幾點：
(1)認真讀圖，弄清大意：讀圖時要充分理解圖畫所表達的內容，弄清圖中的人物在干什麼，弄清圖畫背景與人物之間的聯系，弄清事情發生的經過。
(2) 理出要點，擬定提綱：讀圖之後，要根據圖畫表達的主要內容，理出表達的要點。列出要點時要注意分清主次，不能看到圖中有什麼就認為什麼要寫。看圖作文時描述圖畫內容是不可取的，應充分展開想像使圖畫活起來。理出要點之後，就可以根據要點擬定提綱,即把整個圖畫中要表達的內容先用一句話寫下來。
(3) 緊扣要點，擴寫成文。在列出要點後，依據已經寫出來的話語擴寫成一篇短文。擴寫時，可運用想像適度發揮，緊扣圖畫的內容，進行適當敘述，連貫通順即可。
(4) 通讀短文，修正錯誤。寫好文章之後應通讀全文進行檢查。在檢查時，應著重看短文是否扣住圖畫的內容，要點是否有遺漏。同時，還要注意有無語法錯誤，如時態、人稱等，是否符合文體特點、格式等等。
