The First Lesson of the New Term, a
TV programme about how to protect oneself in times of emergency, is meant to
provide school students with the knowledge on self-protection. It will help
students in case of natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires, snowstorms or
floods. Many examples show that enough knowledge about self-protection along
with enough courage and willpower can help many survive.
The most recent
example is from the earthquake in Sichuan Province in May of 2008. While
thousands of school kids were killed by collapsed school buildings, all students
from a middle school survived even without a single one being hurt. That's
because of their timely and orderly evacuations (撤離), which they had been
drilled in every term.
It's good to see this program is the most important
activity of a national campaign to make students be aware of personal safety.
Chinese Ecation Ministry has called on all schools nationwide to give lessons
on self-protection knowledge in times of emergency every term.

For example, Australian English』s pronunciation of the sentence 「Today is Friday」 sounds like 「To die is fry die」.
But at present the most popular Englishes are British English and American English. Till now there are one billion people speaking British English and 240 million people speak American English. Canada and America are both American-English-speaking countries.

樓主問的問題太好了，但大師嘛，我非能望其項背也，倒是知道錢鍾書也是非常有這方面天分的，我看過一個片子，說錢鍾書會七八種語言，包括拉丁語，法語，其他很多不記得了。中學有一篇課文不是他寫的跟中國詩相關的嗎，原來是英文講稿，就是為了鎮住老外的。。。掉書袋呀
我有一本他的英文文集，相當不容易讀啊，引經據典，辭藻豐富，不是他圈子裡的絕對一頭霧水。。。
我個人覺得多看多讀就很對啊，但老實說我看nonfiction看完的感觸絕對不如fiction強，而你說的BBC,the Economist都是報道性質的文章，更偏journalistic而不是literary。我更喜歡看書評，都是可以加RSS的（其實是因為經濟學人的文章我從來都看不進去。。。。）評論性質的往往語言也比較鮮活，就是報紙opinion專欄天天互罵的一群人。。。
大概多久能寫得像native。。。這個我就回答不了了，我又不是native。但我始終覺得林語堂級別的大師已經不是像不像native了，而是已經形成了自己的語言風格，超越了模仿。所以「像native寫出有自己特色」本身就比較矛盾。Hemingway的風格也不太像他之前的美國作家的主流風格，但是人家是自己的風格。Joseph Conrad都不是在用母語寫作，能寫出Heart of Darkness簡直就是。。。不光英語，維特根斯坦還用拉丁語寫哲學著作呢，這能有幾個人看得懂啊。。。
我還是覺得多看的話，很多英美人的說法和表達方式自然就internalize了。樓主你可以去我空間看看我轉的Mark Twain的一篇文章，標題就不貼了，怕被河鞋。我覺得要是你裡面的allusions都明白的話，你就太厲害了，那你一定要給我講講。。。anyway，我的意思是，像他那樣的文章就很有幫助。。。
