材料一:普氏野馬,又稱蒙古野馬,原產於我國新疆准噶爾盆地的荒漠地帶,因此又稱准噶爾野馬。普氏野馬素有「馬中活化石」之稱。
野馬在我國歷史上有過不少記載。據載,周穆王西遊東歸時,西五母十分熱情,臨行惜別,奉送不少禮品其中有「野馬、野牛四十」另據文獻載,成吉思汗的軍師耶律楚材軍旅詩里也有對野馬的描繪「千群野馬雜山羊,壯士彎弓殞奇獸」。新疆、賀蘭山、陰山、甘肅,烏蘭察布等地的岩畫中,見有大量野馬的足印。酈道元在《水經注》里就多處提岩畫里的馬及野馬的形象。
1974、1981、1982年,中國科學院,新疆大學等單位先後組織考察隊,深入到准噶爾荒漠、烏倫古河、克拉麥里山、北塔山等野馬產地考察,尋找最後的野馬,後又進行過航空調查,但無果而終。
材料二:中國野馬被偷獵至歐洲各國圈養的,不斷繁殖後代。但圈養普氏野馬比野生普氏野馬腿變粗2—3公分,體重平均增加50—70公斤,奔跑速度下降一半,性情變得溫順起來,沒有了百年前野生普氏野馬的那種警覺、躁動和野性的強健。甚至在2000年春天,新疆野馬繁殖中心引進的一匹最好的盛年母馬「准葛爾1號」因肥胖死於難產。
國際野馬組織提出「野馬還鄉保種計劃」,並積極實行。1986年我國引進第一批野馬共18匹。2001年8月28日新疆野馬繁殖研究中心進行了第一次實驗性放野。由「准葛爾11號」頭馬帶領,放出27匹到卡拉麥里山自然保護區的野外荒漠。放野過程中死掉3匹,五個多月後收回剩下的24匹。這是一次積極的嘗試。相信在國內外科學界的共同努力下,普氏野馬保種、擴群和恢復原始野生種性等工作將大有希望。
