1、什麼是Ivy League？
Ivy League就是「美國常春藤聯盟」。Ivy的來源是這樣的：最初常春藤聯盟只包括哈佛、耶魯、哥倫比亞和普林斯頓4所大學，而4的羅馬數字恰好為「IV」，在其後加一個y即成Ivy，意思就是常春藤，因此「常春藤聯盟」由此而來。
2、什麼是「常春藤盟校」？美國常春藤大學包括哪幾所高校？
常春藤通常也被叫做常青藤，因此常春藤盟校也就是常青藤盟校，現在它一共包含8所美國著名大學：馬薩諸塞州的哈佛大學（1636），康涅狄克州的耶魯大學（1701），紐約州的康奈爾大學（1865），紐約州的哥倫比亞大學（1754），新澤西州的普林斯頓大學（1746），羅德島的布朗大學（1754），新罕布希爾州的達特茅斯學院（1769），賓夕法尼亞州的賓夕法尼亞大學（1740）。可以說常春藤盟校是美國乃至世界頂尖大學的代名詞。
3、關於美國常青藤聯盟這一稱呼
「常青藤聯盟」本身並不是指學術方面的內容，而是關於體育的。「常青藤聯盟」最初並不是聚集思想，而是橄欖球隊。8所常青藤大學除了在體育項目上有共同點，而且在教育和制度上也有著一些顯著的共同特點。它們都是美國資歷很老的私立大學，都位於美國東北部，都在很大程度上受助於捐贈，同時它們也是十分昂貴的。
4、常春藤大學的錄取
8所常春藤大學入學標准都十分嚴格，基本上能進常春藤大學的學生都是品學兼優的好學生，而且學校十分善於提前去各所高中挑選優秀的人才。值得注意的是學生的學習成績並不是常春藤盟校錄取的唯一標准，學生的能力和特長會被特別的看重。
5、關於「新常春藤聯盟」
許多無法進入常春藤盟校的學生往往會考慮所謂的「新常春藤聯盟」。「新常春藤聯盟」包括以下25所大學：

The following table lists the eight U.S. universities that comprise the 'Ivy League' – a small group of private universities that enjoy a reputation for providing excellent ecation, and attract top students.
It is interesting to note that the term 'ivy league' originally referred not to academics but to sports. The original Ivy League brought together not minds, but football teams. That said, these eight universities have some ecational and institutional traits in common beyond their athletics programs. All are long-established, private universities; all are in the Northeastern U.S.; all benefit from sizeable endowments and generous alumni financial support; all are highly selective – and all provide need blind aid that often make them less expensive than in-state public colleges.
Is an Ivy League school right for you? If so, which one? That's a question only you will be able to answer. Factors to consider are the differences among Ivy League members (some are located in large cities, and some in small towns; some have religious affiliations, and some do not). A more important factor is what you want to get out of your college ecation. Although Ivy League schools generally deserve their good reputations, some of their programs are stronger than others. If you're interested in engineering, for example, you probably want to look beyond the eight universities listed below. Only a few Ivy League schools have top-rated engineering programs – and (like any school of engineering) they are stronger in some areas of engineering ecation than others.

Keep in mind that the qualities that make for a good ecation are not limited to the Ivy League. You can look for (and find) features like a low student-to-faculty ratio, high teaching standards, and strong research support at other universities as well. Moreover, non-Ivy League schools might offer things that are important to you and that you could not find at the eight universities listed above – for example, a climate that doesn't include ice and snow.
An Ivy League ecation has undeniable benefits. A degree from an Ivy League school will always draw attention to your resume, and you'll have entry to a valuable alumni network. You'll also receive instruction and mentoring that can help position you for competitive graate programs and prestigious awards like the Rhodes Scholarships. But Ivy League ecations come at a price – both in the tuition you might pay, and in anxiety over the schools' highly competitive admissions. If an Ivy League university is the right choice for you, you'll be happy to enre the application process. But even in that case, you will probably be more comfortable with having made that decision if you first go through the process of considering other options as well.

申請美國名校，資深學生簽證專家胡偉航認為學生必須具備兩個條件：知道自己是誰，知道學校是什麼。每個學校申請的程序大都差不多，但都有各自的要求。初審時，主要看你的GPA、SAT，然後才了解你的個性和優點。GPA和SAT是考慮的基本條件，GPA可以看出學生的學習能力，SAT可以看出學生的智商。美國的名校特別不能容忍學生的SAT成績很高但GPA成績很低，因為這樣就顯示出學生很懶。
初審過關者的材料還要由老教師來會審。老師會根據你的GPA、SAT成績和你選擇專業的情況，來確定你是否適合在該校就讀。你即便理工科很好，但麻省理工學院也可能不會錄取你，因為學校會對你進行綜合的判斷，不會因為你的某一個單項成績很優秀而錄取你。

申請常青藤院校的硬體條件 （共性）
1.國內著名高中、大學在讀生，畢業生。
2.國內平均成績90-95分以上，或GPA:3.55以上，學校及所在地區TOP10學生。
3.英語(論壇)成績，TOFEL:100分/640分以上，SAT：2200分以上，GRE:1400分以上，GMAT:700分以上。
4.國內有藝術特長、體育特長、數學特長等優先考慮。
5.獲過相關比賽、國際競賽等獎項的優先考慮。
麻省理工學院錄取學生，有兩個最重要的條件：一是當你失敗時，能夠站起來繼續往前走；二是我的愛好是自己的，不受別人的影響。為什麼？因為學校培養的是科學家，因此要求每個學生必須不怕失敗，不會放棄，有自己的主見。
耶魯大學則不同，學校要求學生具有領導能力和關注社區歷史的愛好。耶魯大學的每個宿舍就是一個社區，每個社區有很多活動，每個學生在社區活動中，都可以培養自己的活動能力和領導能力，每個社區可以相互影響，相互交流。
哈佛大學的錄取要求很奇怪，共有12點要求，而且每年的要求都不一樣，都在變，你永遠不知道學校每年到底要錄取什麼學生，因此學校每年的新生都與往年的不一樣，這樣可以形成非常豐富的校園文化。
普林斯頓大學則沒有具體的錄取要求，但每年招生之前，學校都會給哈佛大學去電，詢問哈佛的錄取條件。哈佛要的學生，他們堅決不要；哈佛不要的學生，他們則會考慮錄取。
哥倫比亞大學由於位處最繁華的紐約，各種文化兼容並蓄，因此要求學生具有文化欣賞能力，校方認為只有懂得欣賞不同文化的人，才會獲得成功。
布朗大學則非常自由，進校後學生可以自己選擇課程和專業，你一年時間只學一門數學課程都可以，因為校方認為，你要想成功，只要學會做你喜歡做的就可以了。如果你不了解學校的錄取要求，不管你多優秀，你都不可能獲得錄取。

They have a long history. They are serious in academics. Many famous scientists, political celebrities, business elites graated there. In America, Ivy League is the synonym of topmost school.
These elite schools maintain a strict admission policy. The students who are fortunate enough to be there are naturally good in study and character. The school has already been choosing fit slate of students in different high schools, and those who have got national excellent student prize and are rich in talents become its targets.
