 1. The United Nations (UN) is an international organization set up to promote world peace and security, to protect international agreements and to make sure that international laws are followed by all nations. The UN also seeks to help improve human lives and living conditions. This organization, formed in San Francisco in 1945, grew out of several meetings (1941-1945) held by those nations who had fought against Germany, Japan and Italy.
