Pre-Reading Activities/ 预习内容

First Listening
Please listen to a short passage carefully and prepare to answer some questions.
About 78,000 foreign high school students leave home each year to study in America. They want to improve their English, finish high school, and learn about a different way of life. They face problems like finding a place to live and enough money for personal and medical expenses. They also must learn to take care of themselves. Leaving family behind when boarding the plane for America is the most difficult part; next is the wait for the flight to a new home in America. Later, students complain about strange food, their longing for home or how early they must be home on weekend nights. Students with little English take private language lessons which increase their total expenses to about $3,800. (Words: 120)

 Second Listening

1. How many foreign high school students travel to study in America each year?
2. What are their reasons for studying in America?
3. What are the problems the foreign students must cope with when they study in America?
