Unit 10

Preview
This unit will provide glimpses into World War II from England, Japan and Germany. In each case, the human spirit is revealed. England suffered a heavy pounding from Nazi bombers, but the people responded by bravely helping one another and prevailed against the attacks. The contented life of a Japanese family living a short distance from the site of the atomic bomb blast was forever changed. The family healed and survived, but every member suffered the effects in a different way. In Germany, a foreign news writer kept diaries of life under the Third Reich. He determined to take his diaries out of Germany, even though the risk might cost him his life. So much had happened that he wanted to keep his record of events for a time when he could share them with the world. In every case, the distinguishing factor was the spirit of the people willing to triumph over very harsh conditions.
