Newspapers
There are numerous newspapers in the world; no one knows the exact number. In China alone, there are as many as a hundred parts of government-run newspapers, such as People's Daily, China Daily, Hubei Daily, etc. Apart from national papers, another branch of the Chinese press exists. Almost every town, every university, and even some middle schools have their own papers, daily or weekly!
Newspapers are an effective means of communication. People who read them every day can know all that has been happening in the world, even without stepping out of their houses. National newspapers tell the readers the policies published by the government, conferences or meetings held at home and abroad, major events in current national and international politics. The local papers are written entirely for readers interested in local events. If you want to hire new employees or apply for a job, or buy an electric appliance, read this kind of paper and you will get the information you need. The weekly paper does not get out of date as quickly as that in a daily one. In brief, it is because of their communicative functions that all newspapers attract a multitude of readers.
But some people play down the advantage of newspapers, arguing that it's time that they were replaced by radio and television. It's true that we can profit from the two. In many ways, however, newspapers are superior to them. Papers are a convenient mass medium so that you can read them whenever and wherever you like. In addition, they can be kept as private materials. This enables you to read them at all times. With these advantages, newspapers will continue to share with the radio and the television set the responsibility of providing news for the people.
