Looking Forward to the Twenty-First Century
Since World War Ⅱ science and technology have developed a great deal. deal. In the next century this trend will undoubtedly continue. All kinds of technology will be improved at a higher speed than ever before. This development, will bring, I believe, great benefit to our everyday life and our work. At the same time it will also improve industrial and agricultural production.
However this development is sure to bring some new problems including some we have never met before, or at least, make some present problems even worse. If some new species of animals were really turned out by genetic engineering one day, what would the world be like then? And once the artificial intelligence robots were put into use, what would these clever "people" do to their producers.
In spite of these possible problems, we will not go back to the life led by our forebears. The way forward is to improve our use of science and technology and find the keys to the problems. That is difficult but we, the undergraduates of 1990, will surely turn it into a reality.
