动词时态的翻译规律
英语动词时态的一般现在时用“照译”法或“成分转换”法，其他时态一般都采用“词量增加”的译法。
1．The diagram shows the electrovalent bonding in ordinary table salt．（一般现在时，下同）这示意图表示常见食盐的电价键合状态。（照译）
2．Hydrogen is lighter than air．氢气比空气轻。（表语 lighter 转换为谓语“轻”，系动词 is 省译）
3．Power is the rate of doing work．功率是做功的速率。（谓语的一部分 is转换为谓语“是”，表语 the rate转换为宾语“速率”。）
4．Some people thought that heat was a fluid．（一般过去时）一些人曾以为热是一种流体。
5．Some day man will be able to utilize the solar energy．（一般将来时）总有一天，人类将能利用太阳能。
6．All radioactive elements are constantly disintegrating．（现在进行时）所有的放射性元素都在不断地蜕变。
7．We have seen many examples of transformation of energy from one form into another．（现在完成时）我们已经看到了能量由一种形式转换成另一种形式的许多例子。
8．William Henry Pekin，a chemist，was trying to make quinine in 1896．（过去进行时）1896年，化学家威廉·亨利·珀金正设法制造奎宁。
9．We shall be working at the workshop from 8 till 10．（将来进行时）从八点到十点我们将在车间工作。
10．By the turn of the 19th century geologists had found that rock layers oc- curred in a definite order．（过去完成时）到19世纪初，地质学家已发现岩层有一定的次序。
11．This factory has been producing television sets for three years．（现在完成进行时）这个厂三年来一直在生产电视机。
12．He thought that the substance would burn at that temperature．（过去将来时）过去，他认为该物质在那个温度下就会燃烧。
