“大”字英译种种
“译”是英语学习中五项基本技能之一，且是一种较难掌握的技能。在汉英翻译中要使译文准确，既需要掌握大量词汇，又必须理解同一汉字在不同语境中的不同含意，从而选用恰当的单词进行表达。例如：“那场大病使他瘦了许多。”此句中的“大”字意思是病的程度很严重，故“大病”就译为seri-ous illness。另如：“我们每周进一次大扫除。”这里的“大”是说打扫要干净、彻底，因而“大扫除”译为thoroush cleaning。通常一见到“大”字，我们往往先想到big，large，huge等常见单词，但在不同语境中，“大”字有多种表达形式。下面就结合翻译练习谈谈“大”字的英译。

“大”字的译法还有许多。这就要求我们在进行汉英翻译时，必须认真思考，切不可作word by word translation．
