28: 以-ses等结尾的国家名词后应该用单数还是复数动词?

Question 28:    It's hard for me to decide whether a noun for nationality that end with -ses,-ch, or -sh should take a singular verb or a plural one. Can you give me any suggestions?

Answer: Nouns for nationality that end with -ses, -ch, or -sh may be singular or plural depending on their meanings. Some of these words are Chinese, French, English, etc. When the word refers to a language, it takes a singular verb. When the word refers to the people of the country, it takes a plural verb and is preceded by the article "the".
Example:
1) French is a Romance language.
2) The French are romantic.
