27: class后面有时候跟一个单数动词,而有时候又跟一个复数动词。请问有什么规则可循吗?

Question 27: I found that the word "class" is sometimes followed by a singular verb and sometimes a plural one. Are there any rules I should follow?

Answer: Class is one of the collective nouns. Collective nouns are usually singular but may be plural if the members are functioning independently. Watch the pronouns for clues to the singular or plural nature of the subject, some of these words are class, team, police, committee, audience, family, faculty, etc.
Examples:
1) That class has its final test on Friday.
2) The class are working on their individual projects today.

问题27: 我发现class后面有时候跟一个单数动词,而有时候又跟一个复数动词。请问有什么规则可循吗?

回答: Class是一个集合名词。集合名词通常用作单数,但如果强调其中的成员时,也可用复数。主语的单复数可以根据句中用到的的代词来做判断。此类名词有class, team, police, committee, audience, family, faculty等。
例:
1) That class has its final test on Friday.
2) The class are working on their individual projects today.
