3. Bell Labs: A research institution in the U.S.A. founded in 1925. It is well known for its invention of transistors. Other inventions include stereo recording, sound motion pictures, the first long-distance TV transmission, the first fax machine, the touch-tone phone, etc. The Bell Labs also developed Unix operating system which made large-scale networking of diverse computing systems — and thus the Internet — practical; It also developed the computer programming languages C and C++ which are the world’s most widely used programming languages. 4. Carnegie-Mellon University: Carnegie-Mellon is a private research university of about 7,500 students and 3,000 faculty, research and administrative staff.
