Unit 4 新视野大学英语第五册第四课

Preview
Hard work, a sense of guilt, and personal ambition are some traditional values in American society. With economic and social development, these values are being challenged. The authors of the three texts in this unit try to defend these basic values from their own observations and analyses. The first passage insists that work is the most vigorous, vivid sign of life in individuals and society. In the second passage the sense of guilt is hailed as the sign of conscience and a civilizing force. In the third passage, the author describes personal ambition as the engine of personal and social progress and excitement.
