 2. Fourth of July (Independence Day)
Fourth of July (Independence Day) is the US annual holiday commemorating the formal adoption by the Continental Congress of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia. Although the signing of the Declaration was not completed until August, the Fourth of July holiday has been accepted as the official anniversary of United States independence, and is celebrated in all states and territories of the US.
The holiday was first observed in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776, at which time the Declaration of Independence was read aloud, city bells rang, and bands played. It was not declared a legal holiday, however, until 1941. The Fourth of July is traditionally celebrated publicly with parades and pageants, patriotic speeches, and organized firing of guns and cannons and displays of fireworks; early in the 20th century public concern for a “safe and sane” holiday resulted in restrictions on general use of fireworks. Family picnics and outings are a feature of private Fourth of July celebrations. 3. California
California is a state in the western United States, bordering the Pacific Ocean. The third largest state in the Union, California covers an area of great physical diversity in which uplands dominate the landscape.
The name California was first used to designate the region by the Spanish expedition led by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, as it sailed northward along the coast from Mexico in 1542. The name itself was probably derived from a popular Spanish novel published in 1510 in which a fictional island paradise named California was described. The state's official nickname is the Golden State, referring to the gold rush, which played a central role in California's entry into the Union on September 9, 1850, as the 31st state. The nickname also suggests the state's golden fields and sunshine. To learn more about California, please visit the website at http://www.nhce.edu.cn.

 4. pub (
BrE short for public house)
Pub is a building (not a club, hotel, etc. but often serving meals) where alcoholic drinks are sold and served; it is the same as a bar, or tavern in the eyes of Americans.
Related terms: public bar—the less expensive bar in a public house (or hotel); lounge bar—the smarter and more lavishly furnished area in a public house (or hotel).

 5. Brazil
Brazil is one of the world's largest and most populous countries. It is the largest country in South America, occupying almost half of the continent and extending from north of the equator to south of the Tropic of Capricorn. Its largest city is São Paulo, and its capital is Brasília. Brazil's large size and diverse peoples provide great variety in the natural environment, population, culture, and economy.
The nation's natural beauty is reflected in a wide variety of geographic locations, from the distinctive dome shape of Sugar Loaf Mountain in the city of Rio de Janeiro, to the magnificent Iguaçu Falls in the far south, to the strange limestone formations in the state of Minas Gerais.
Brazil's population is very diverse. This diversity is the result of intermingling between Native Americans, Portuguese settlers, and African slaves, which produced a society of racial and ethnic complexity. Brazil is the only Latin American country settled by the Portuguese.
The economic development of Brazil has been strongly influenced by a series of economic cycles in which different resources were exploited in different parts of the country. Among its main commodities are the dyewood pau brasil, from which the country takes its name, sugar and coffee. Brazil is now the most industrialized nation in South America, with a rapidly modernizing economy and a largely urban population. Tropical crops and minerals remain significant exports, but manufactured goods are increasingly important. Brazil has by far the largest economy in Latin America.
