Part 1 is made up of 3 paragraphs, from Paragraph 1 to Paragraph 3. This part tells us what people have been hoping for, and what ways people have tried for a long lifespan. It also tells us that the individual human lifespan set by nature has remained much the same, which is about 70 years.
Part 2 consists of 7 paragraphs, from Paragraph 4 to Paragraph 10. In this part the author talks about different opinions and methods of helping people to live longer and to combat the ageing process. It actually includes four aspects. Firstly, many people are now well enough off to live longer and not to die of various diseases. Secondly, the current focus in age research is on finding ways to help people to live longer healthily. Thirdly, people can adhere to a healthy lifestyle to improve their chances for healthy old age. Lastly, gene therapy may be a way to slow down ageing.
Part 3 is made up of the last three paragraphs. It presents some worries about the ability of the planet and society to cope with the problems caused if too many people live longer. Finally, the author indicates his view about a long lifespan: It is desirable for a man to be terminated at his proper time.
