Unit 6 新视野大学英语第四册第六课

Preview
This unit deals with some social crimes from different aspects: bribery in business, policemen carrying guns to fight against crimes and how some people try to take revenge (报复) on the officials who are carrying out the law. Passage A discusses the practice of bribery in business and lists the categories of bribery that exist. International businessmen often face a conflict between their own moral standards and the need to win an important contract for their company. The second passage looks at the question of whether ordinary British policemen should carry guns or not. In doing so it looks at the public attitude to policemen using guns, the likely problems which could arise and the less violent alternatives currently available. The last passage narrates a humorous real life story about an ordinary truck driver who took his own clever revenge on customs offices for being suspected of smuggling (走私) while crossing the Canadian -U.S.A. border.
